No offense to anyone, and i'm not pointing out certain nations, but the whole world and human race in general. In my opinion, there were more intelligent people hundreds of years ago, then their is now.

We have more, and better technology. But more and more people watch television instead of reading books. More and more teenagers and adults are doing drugs, and drugs do kill brain cells. The average human being has an IQ of 100, and thats nothing really to be proud of.

What are your views on this, do you concur? Also I must admit, i'm not the sharpest person you'll meet. But thats mainly because, i'm still a teenager and I have not fully grown, mentally.

Yes I forgot to mention lazy. Which is sad, if we keep this up then i'm sure in the future. There would be robots that feed you, and clean for you. They already invented a small robotic vacuum and mop!

Good question! I agree, the number of intellectuals seems to decline from year to year. Perhaps a cause for this lies in your suggestion of technology. Indeed, reading books is not a very popular notion in society today. Instead, you have people reading media online via the internet instead.

I'd like to expand on that a little more as well. Now days we find ourselves reading e-mail. Corporate America does its best to get ads delivered to your inbox, scammers want in on the action as well, then your friends/family/colleagues use the technology to communicate with you as well (instead of calling you on the phone). If you stand back and look at all this - just look at the big picture - I think you may begin to notice that people are not very sociable any more.

We are use to getting what we want - as we want it. When we leave our computers/cell phones/PDAs and begin to actually talk with one another - we find that conflicting personalities and viewpoints cause us to want to go back to our technologies to find answers to the issues we encounter. Shoot - look at YA!! lol

I think technology has made us all lazy to a degree. We are intellectual but on a different plane of existence. I honestly think that the only way we will be able to see that intellect is through the media we read. Of course this means that our diction will need to improve - as we all know - there are many who write phonetically (as they speak). Doing as much only shows ignorance to those who read material from such people. Of course you have every spell checker known to man that can be used - so of course reading material that is so poorly written often frustrates readers and a material's purpose is lost through the reader's lack of interest.

So, are we getting "more" stupid? No, i dont think we are. I think we are becoming "idle" and stagnant. Technology does so much for us that we are working less to acheve end results. Heck, there is a car on the market now that can parallel park itself. If that is not helping humans become more lazy - I dont know what is.

I can for see a day that comes where we all will no longer walk to our destinations, instead we will be riding some kind of personal vehicle. People will exercise less so there will be more health issues which humans would have to find fixes for. Everything would be read to us by computers - so we'll never have to read again. Those are just a few ideas as to what we may be in for in the years to come.

I truly believe that a lot of this is due to so many children being raised in daycare. I know that it is difficult for a couple to make a living on one paycheck. I know that some people do use daycare and also spend quality time with thier children but..... most do not. If a parent has to take a child to daycare, pick them up late afternoon when they are tired after working all day and then go home and cook and clean etc., get them bathed and in bed there is no time for teaching real values. These kids are being fed and intertained at daycare but not loved and taught lifes lessons. I have worked in daycare. I hated it. Some are better than others but the crowded enviroment is not in my opinion emotionally or mentally healthy. There are some children who spend small amounts of time there and there are some who spend as much a 10 hrs a day at them. People are letting others raise their kids.

I agree with some of what you say, I do think that the smart people we have now are very intelligent and do great things for the world, we are constantly discovering more about medicine, the environment, technology, animals, space and so on.

But the human race is getting lazier than EVER before. Even 20 years ago the term obesity was hardly ever used, now I cant go one day without hearing it somewhere. The technology we have created is making our lives easier but it is also making people lazy. Thats my 2 cents anyway

Humans are habitual. Meaning we form to our comfort. We as humans have grown into pampered people. Computers do our math, spell check, studies, We do not have the dead free time as the old people had, to be more creative, logical, and physical. I remember when the big power out happened in 2004. The cashiers had to close. Some had no clue how to operate without the computer. No simple math skill. It is sad. In the same though the positive of our situation is that there is an advanced technology that we live in. Anything we want to know is "just a click away" It is up to ourselves to utilize the benefits.

Yea when I was a teenager I did think like that.

But now I realize that we are 100% like our forefathers. They were just as smart/stupid as we are. True, some people do drugs and get pregnant but we have many more who do study and do go to university/college. When they look back 200 years from now, they will see that it was all the same through out for all people.

I believe that future generations are losing "common sense". There are many people succeeding in the academic sense but when it comes to common sense, I'm finding that I have to go into details to explain myself.

i.e.
A gentleman called an Obstetrix Gynecologist and I ask for his name so that the on call Dr can call him back and he states, "I'm not the patient". Later in the converstation, after ensuring him that I know he's not the patient, I asked, "May I have the date of birth?" and his reply was, "MIne or my wife's?".

Yes, the human race is becoming more stupid and dangerously crazy, power crazy. Just imagine, being stupid and having a lot of power to make decisions, worse than giving the mad monkey a stick, to use as it wills.
