Has anyone suffered from Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction during pregnancy? I'm at 39 weeks, experiencing all of the symptoms, have an appt scheduled with the OB, and I am considering asking for a scheduled C-Section. Any insights?

I suffered with SPD throughout 3 of my 5 pregnancies, it increased in severity, and began earlier with each subsequent pregnancy.
I was offered a belt to hold my bump up, but that was all that could really be done to help.
I had heard that labour would be more painful because of this condition, but in fact I didn't find it affected any of my labours in any way, and I was able to deliver naturally with no problem.
Maybe a fortnight after the baby was born all pain had evaporated, and I was back to normal. I wasn't offered a C-section and to be honest if I had been I would have refused, recovery from SPD is much quicker than recovery from a section.
Good Luck!

i am 35 weeks and having severe pubic pain also. I have been walking around feeling like a bowling ball is prolapsing through my vagina for the last four weeks. My child is huge, as were the last two. At 28 weeks he weighed over 3 and a half pounds by sonogram. I have measured two and a half weeks large for six months. I have gained about 18 pounds, do not have gestational diabetes, and have normal blood pressure and amniotic fluid. However, I do have huge children and with my first they had to break his collar bone to get his shoulders out. My second was induced at 37 weeks and we avoided all of this. She was a healthy 8 pound girl. I am wanting to get induced at 37 weeks with this one, also. My new doctor seems nervous about this but if he feels it's necessary to force me to stay in pain any longer than term, which is 37 weeks, I WILL find another doctor. My point here is: you write the checks and any way you choose to give birth is your decision. There is no reason to stay in pain any longer than you have to! The only problem with scheduled c-sections is that your insurance may fight with you on paying for it if they don't consider it medically necessary. I think you need to ask your doctor to do a sonogram or something to make sure that your child is down in there correctly and not too large for you to deliver. Obviously, sonograms are not always accurate, especially at 39 weeks, but any doctor with common sense should discuss all your options with you and tell you quite honestly if he feels that having SPD will make your labor or your recovery time longer or more painful. You don't need to be in non-progressive labor for 30 hours and wind up with an emergent c-section. At the same time, if he feels you can give birth naturally without complications, the recovery time should be so much faster. This is where his experience should come in handy and he should be able to assist you in making an informed decision. However, it is your decision.

its really long but VERY good info. I believe it says its best not to have a c-section. and it also says to try and stay away from having an epidural. It gives advice on how to relieve the pain and easy labor positions.

But thank you, i didnt know anything about it and i looked it up and thats the exact pain ive been having for a lil over a week now, i cant stand it. Just a lil bit ago i was wondering what it could be and how to approach my doctor about it.

I had that with my last 3 pregnancies. My Dr. induced me all three times at my 37th week because I could hardly walk due to the severe pelvic pain. I hope it's not so bad this time; although it more than likely will since this is my 5th. I sure hope he induces me again. My kids are all healthy and strong.
