Not only can x-rays but also sound as in Ultrasound. It is used to detect defects in any material.

Because Iron is a metal it has a negative relative electric permitivity. This means the refractive index is a multiplie of the square root of -1 : a complex number.
This is why light (especially visable light due to the lower energy compared to x-ray) is attenuated exponentially.
To I'm Prashant: The angle of refraction would not be zero for a material with 100% reflection, it would still exist. Do not get transmission/reflection co-efficients confused with refractive index! The two are only related in terms of a change in polarisation, which in metals induces a phase change in one of the polarised states (causing elliptically polarised light). The refractive index of a metal is a complex number, FACT.

Iron is an opaque body.Refractive index exists for only optical medium ie which allow light to pass through them partially or wholly.Since iron it has no refractive index.

Arup S is correct, all materials have a refractive index (refraction can be achieved with X-rays not only visible light.)
The refractive index of Iron is ~1.51 (similar to glass)

dear ,
iron is an opaque medium and thus, doesn't allow light to pass through.
So, its refractive index is not defined as refractive index is defined only for those materials which allow light to pass through.

Infinite, as the refractive index of solids is infinite. This is because, RI=(sin i) / (sin r). But in case of solids, since the light is totally reflected & not refracted, so angle r is 0 degrees. So, since sin r = sin 0 = 0 in solids, RI = sin i / 0 = infinite.
