This is a class 12th question of CBSE.
This is a device which is taught under the topic 'MAGNETISM'.
In this you have both electric field as well as magnetic field acting perpendicular to each other.
Electric field acelerates the charged particle whereas magnetic field keeps it in a circular motion.

I teach Atomic & Nuclear physics so I use a cyclotron.

The main use is called velocity selection, only particles travelling with a certain velocity get accelerated by the electric field (as the field is not constant - it is pulsed), therefore only certain particles make it completely round the cyclotron and exit into the detector. The application is if you need particles of a certain energy, and the cyclotron can be calibrated to do this.

For beter results a synchrotron can be used - which is similar to a cyclotron (in the sense of particle acceleration - but it does have fundamental differences.)

You can find synchrotrons and cyclotrons just by doing a Google search.
