Now Anna Nicole Smith has died it has got me wondering, I never even bothered about her life while she was alive but now she has died It has got me intrigued and I have been reading about her life on the net.
Do you think if certain celebritiys had not have died young they would not be as famous as they now are, eg elvis, marilyn monroe, jim morrison, kurt cobain, freddie mercury, john lennon etc etc,
If they were still alive today would we still be buying their records or would we be saying get lost grandad your a sad old has been now.
Is the key to immortality to tragicly die before your time??

I've totally agree. I'm not a big fan of the whole 'celebrity' world. It's a very fickle place to be. But early death does tend to immortalise even the worst 'celebrities' out there!
It's often said that people are never appreciated in their own lifetimes. How odd of humanity to idolise people simply because they have died young!
Lets hope Jade Goody lives a very long life!

I don't mind them liking the person, it's just that some people judge you before they actually know what's going on. I'm an MJ fan, and I'm gonna be honest, there ARE some pretty crazed obsessed fans, but ever celeb has some. For example, someone asked about Bob Dylan and Michael Jackson... I answered this beause the asker said he was overrated: 'Er... Don't you think he should be considered that great? I mean... Basically half the human race thinks he's a racist, skin bleaching, weird, nose surgery-loving, oxygen tank-sleeping, secretly a woman, freaky pedophile with children that are not biologically his. I wasn't really much of a Bob Dylan fan, so I'm not up-to-date on most of his music. But I'm not saying MJ either. It's a tie 8D' 8 thumbs down. FFS I MEANT THE OTHER PEOPLE LIKE THE MEDIA. NOT MYSELF. Jesus Christ some people are annoying. Yes my life has simply ended because music out there these days is practically sh2t and being a 15 year old who has nothing better than to listen to music... =/ I'm over it though... 45 years is enough for me.

Celebrities who have died young have gotten infinitely more famous because of it. We're intrigued by the what-if's of the whole thing and tragedy of dying before their time. If Marilyn Monroe, Jim Morrison, etc. had lived a normal long life, they still would have been famous but nowhere near as iconic as they turned out to be. It's not recommended as a career decision, but famous people who happen to die young become much more well known.

Somehow, yes! Because when they are alive and not that popular celebrity then not many people are interested in them or actually so bothered! But when they tragically and unexpectedly die it is a BIG AND SHOCKING news! We watch news on tv or read on the net as the generation of today do. Then we actually get into the enthusiasm of getting to know more about the person. We are sorta forced into getting to know more about them as it is the news on everyone's mind.To tell u truth, I never knew Anna Nicole before her death and then just like I said above, I was forced to find more about her death and life. But the news and popularity doesn't last long. The news gradually dies down and we r all back 2 normal!

Many seem to become more famous, ex specially when they die so young, James Dean is still rated and he died years ago age 24. in 1955. It's properly the shock to the world when they do die at a young age, media coverage makes people read and become interested.

I don't think so because the longer a famous person is around they get know by more generations. take bill cosby for example. Us older people rember him for the cosby shows, and the younger for the jello comercials. And I deffiniately think what the did in there lives influence's how famous they become. for example princess Diana. I have been teaching the 4 & 5 year olds to remember her name, because she did so many good things. They have no clue who the other people are you mentioned. And elvis maybe the only one that really lives on. for the next 100 years.

John Lennon WAS more popular than Jesus befre he died. Hell yeah, celebrities are way more popular when they die mostly because people don't even think about people that famous dying. It's usually a thought of immortality that makes you think they'll never die and when they do it makes the whole world chaotic.
