16 year olds pay some taxes, most work, and for the most part, they aren't as stupid as people seem to think. Also, if you really think that the average voter is a well educated, unbiased, mature independent thinker, just take one look at the politics section on Yahoo! answers. Or, for that matter, look at a few of these responses. "Kids are stupid", "I don't want some pimply faced child deciding my future"...these are the thoughts of mature, responsible, unbiased adults? Right. Also, some of these people are saying that the age should be 21? So some people are old enough to own property, enlist, or to be drafted (if it were ever reinstated), but not old enough to vote?

Biologically speaking, a 16 year old's brain is still in it's formative stage. If you need further proof, pick up a book titled "Yes, your teenager is crazy". It will explain it to you. It goes into the developmental process through the teen years and why they sometimes make really, really awful decisions.

But, then, I don't think 16 year-old's should drive either.

i haven't even heard this until now i personally think they should change the legal age of driving until 18 also so i don't support at all changing the voting age to 16 either regardless of how well informed or intelligent they are

Schools have changed their education direction since I was 16(26 years ago). We didn't have any political views or values. Teens now a days are more politically involved and motivated, especially in a time of war, besides, they are as much as our future as any other age group.

There is no good reason. Children are superficial voters and thinkers, as seen daily on this site. Most 18 year olds are too stupid to have a sound idea about who to vote for... but I guess you have to start somewhere.

I notice you said " SOME informed 16 year olds "

I would say that you answered your own question.

Judging from the opinions most voters have, 16 year olds are not "ready" to vote from all indications at this time.

They shouldn't because 16 year olds are too imature and do not have the knowledge on what they are doing their minds are still developing.

I think that they should raise it to 21, because teenagers don't have a clue as to what is really going on in the world, especially because of all the liberal garbage that is being taught to them in school.

No reason, 16 is too young. I dont want some pimply faced child deciding my future.
