This is strange. I love ragtime but I don't really like jazz. There's another theory, that jazz came from Lancashire dancers. The musicians watched how the dancers tapped their feet and that gave musicians a new idea to follow. So jazz is like tapping your feet about as in tap dance. It's not that clear whether jazz came directly from ragtime, but it was certainly the new wave when it first started, leaving ragtime a 'thing of the past'. You could say that the ragged timings as within ragtime music was still incorporated into jazz.

Ragtime was the direct predecessor to jazz, which took off in the 30s, if my Jazz Appreciation class from college serves correctly.

in all probability the only effect replaced into its use of syncopation. there is particularly a difference between the two genres, however the rhythm stresses and ameliorations in ragtime had some effect. An occasion of this could be using 8th-observe triplets in a duple meter.

If they have got those stupid plunky banjos. Or unduly ornamentative and inappropriate clarinette accompaniment, which does not seem to compliment the other instruments in any way. These would be prime indicators I reckon.
