When I go to add a printer, it says Operation cannot be completed. The Print Spooler Service is not running.

So I started the Print Spooler in Administrative Tools and then it still gives me the same message...every time I turn it on, it turns itself back off.

alright....so I've tried reinstalling the driver and it wouldn't work....I downloaded the latest driver from Canon so that's not the issue

Side note---last week, around the same time as the printer started acting up, the taskbar disappeared and I had to uninstall Service Pack 2 to get it back, I also got an error message today saying that there was a problem with my Intel Graphics driver.....so obviously there's a deeper issue with some drivers going on here...I've been trying to use Microsoft's website to fix it but so far I'm not having a lot of luck

I have seen similar errors with some viruses like backdoor.ciadoor.b, autostart 9805 Worm, hong kong virus,etc..., if you have an antivirus software make sure is up to date an run a full system scan, if not I recommend you purchasing one and update it and then run a full system scan, there are some vulnerabilities in Windows XP that allows a virus to do exactly what your problem is right now, I tried removing one of this viruses with a free copy of AVG and a free copy of Avast and was unsuccessful, but I haven't had a problem with Norton Antivirus home or corporate or McAfee Antivirus either, I don't know what Internet service provider you have but many now offer free Internet Security Suites for current members, I hope this helps.

What changed a week ago?

1: Try uninstalling the printer, reboot, and reinstall (with the latest drivers)

2: Make sure the service is set to AUTO
