I used Norton Internet Security, 2007 to scan my Pc and once it discovers the virus, it ask me 2 save all my work and restarts instead of removing it and when my system boots, it displays something about my system recovering from a serious system error (at every startup)... but the virus is still there and each time i scan Norton restarts my system to protect it or the system restarts itself. Now I am afraid it will restart my system any minute from now and even more afraid to scan my PC because Norton is afraid of the visus 2, please help me out!

I did what Dell tech said, i.e run an online scan with the link provided and it scanned it but restarted my computer when it discovered the virus (just like Norton did)

i suggest that you save all your work to CD's and DVD's or an external hard drive (whichever you have to use) then get your windows CD (im assuming you operate Windows) and reboot your whole PC. it will wipe everything from the memory of your computer, deleting the virus with it!! and you will have a brand new PC :P it will go a lot faster too!! good luck

First of all, save all your stuff to floppy disks, that's right, floppies. Viruses can get onto CD's and bit sticks, but not floppies because floppies just aren't big enough. Then try this:

My dad swears by this new antivirus software called AVG grisoft. He keeps telling me to get it, it's free, just type it in on the internet, get it, get it to scan straight away and it'll quarantine your virus and eventually nuke it. Norton is a pushover. Plus AVG will check for viruses in the background and won't slow your computer down if you want to do something else at the same time, unlike Norton, which seems to insist upon you leaving your computer on its own for hours at a time so it can find out where viruses are and therefore know in which direction to run away.

But from now on, be careful what you open up. Beware of Active X controls, popups you don't need and people who send you spam, especially from people you don't know, or advertisers who say they'll give you money to run a program in the background on your computer. Only go on popular sites, areas you can trust, and if you've got internet e-mail, make sure taht's protected by some sort of virus software too. I think Yahoo! mail is okay, but saying that it's probably protected by bloody Norton.

This isn't advertising, but please do try AVG, made my dad realise what a prat he was opening stupid e-mails and trusting my sister on the net. Found no less than nine viruses and seventeen trojan horses on his computer. And ever since it nuked them, I can't help but notice that his computer runs so much more smoothly. Lately he's been watching my sister like a hawk whenever she so much as even looks at a computer.

And good luck battling the virus.

I'm not a big fan of Norton Internet Security, however boot your pc into safe mode (Press F8 after the initial boot screen has shown).

Then run a total scan, virus applications find it easier to remove viruses when in safe mode as alot of applications AND viruses cannot run under this mode.

My site below under Computer Talk or Internet Talk has a page dedicated to recovering from a virus infection. All of the information you seek should be there to get rid of this thing once and for all. Hope this helps

I had this problem on a customers laptop
What you have to do is go into 'Control Panel' then 'Add and Remove programs' look in the list for system erro or something along those lines and REMOVE IT. restart your PC

See how that goes

But it dose sound a little like your harddrive could be infected but not sure as haven't seen your PC.

Hope that helps

do a system restore to about a year before this happened then a virus scan
also it's a good idea to install a second anti virus
i use avast it's free off the net for a year
you wont lose any data doing the restore
this in it's self could get the virus out but norton seems not very good at detecting them all as i found out to my expence

Norton's a bit of a wimp when it comes to viruses. You need another type of virus scanner, such as Adaware for free or SpywareDoctor if you want to pay for one.

I would boot your computer into Safe Mode (press F8 when your system is booting) and do a deep virus scan with one of the aformentioned virus scanners.

Do an online virus scan
And let us know the exact name of the virus the online scan finds.

G'day, I never liked Norton Utilities, I use AVG from www.grisoft.com, it's free and so are the updates, but if you use it you will have to disable Norton or remove it. You need to run a SpyBot S&D program, again free, just go to www.cnet.com and type in SpyBot S&D and they will bring up the website and information on the program I have used AVG for years, it's outstanding, and free
