Annoying. I'm not a dog. I'm a person. I don't expect people to go through the nicities of jumping hoops like a dog for a treat. I also don't hand out praise (or criticism) lightly. So if I give it out, I mean it and I don't expect people to thank me for it or try to pretend that they are undeserving or what they did wasn't that big of a deal.
I think the people playing the games on both sides are annoying, though. The people who stroke egos like a hooker in a red light district are just as much to blame for the social custom of unnecessary humility in my opinion.
