Some people do this to help the vehicle keep warm and blow more hot air through the heating system. This prevents the cold air from flowing over the radiator and chilling the coolant. Better idea is to change the thermostat to a higher temp rating so that the engine heats up more before releasing the coolant to the radiator. It’s a 2 cent fix instead of changing the thermostat and I do not recommend doing it.

This helps in keeping the truck warm. This as a rule is done during cold weather as the cardboard blocks the cold wind that goes through the grill area. Cold wind at the speed of the truck puts the temp at well below zero. But with the cardboard in place the cold air does not get in as freely thus the truck stays warmer.

when it gets cold if your vehicle does not warm up enough it is a way to help your vehicle run warmer,it keeps the cold air from rushing through your radiator when you are going down the road.
If your vehicle has a warm enough thermastat in it you dont need to cover it up,but if the temp gage doesnt come up to where it should be this will help.

Basically, to block the cooling air from the radiator to make the engine/coolant warm up quicker, so the heater works sooner, and the engine warms up sooner, to help drivability.
Just remember to watch temperature gauge, to remove radiator cover once things warm up, or you could over heat, even in winter.

To restrict air flow. A lot of engines don't get hot enough to make the heater work unless you block the radiator. If your heater is not getting hot enough, you might want to try it but watch your engine temp carefully in order to avoid overheating.

On a CAR, you DON'T need to do this, because you have a thermostat to regulate engine temperature.

I'm not sure WHY truckers do this. Maybe they don't have thermostats in big trucks.

I have a diesel powered motorhome, and I notice it NEVER runs anywhere near hot or even warm, but I'm not going to worry about that just now.
