No. I think learning should continue your whole life, not just as a child. Education is important. There should also be creativity in your life. It's a huge part of my life. I couldn't live without art & music. I think there's more to adulthood than earning money & falling in love (courtship as you put it)! Though most of us do have to work for a living & do have relationships. What about other life experiences, friends, family, having fun? What about nature, travel, adventure? What about religion, spirituality, discovering about yourself & the world & the meaning of life? Some people never get married but still have fulfilling lives. I don't think old people are waiting for death! I would hope that most of them are enjoying retirement & can relax, not have to go to work. They have time for travel & hobbies. Maybe they can have a nice garden, be involved in crafts, etc. Once this body is dead, the soul lives on in the afterlife, in Heaven (at least that's what I believe).
Life is only routine if you make it that way. You can make your life as unique & exciting as you choose. There are no rules. Life shouldn't be about waiting for death. You should enjoy every moment of your life from infancy to old age. Never lose your child-like sense of wonder. Never forget to play & have fun. You're never too old to learn, to enjoy life, to love, to explore all that this beautiful world has to offer!

One should do 3 hours meditation by becoming disciple of a good Guru. Then 8 to 10 hours one should spent on earning livelihood by honest means. Some time should be devoted to once family members, listening to them and guiding and advising them.

Perform your duty and all that is expected of you with utmost sincerity. Don't do it with a sense of ennui, but imbued with enthusiasm as if an opportunity to work out your karma.

One of my favorite Jewish scriptures sums it up for me:
"Do justice, love kindness, walk humbly with your God."
(or Gods, sense of the divine, higher calling...)
