It's better for your health if a group of people share one, they will only be breathing and smoking one between them.
Imagine if the group of say 5 or 6 people had one each all together in one room, they would be breathing and smoking a much higher quantity of toxins and would be at greater risk of lung damage.
One joint of cannabis contains the equivalent amount of toxins as 6 cigarettes.
People still smoke and still take cannabis it is a strong addiction, it seriously damages brain cells, perhaps it is a social suicide pact.
The British Lung Foundation has done a lot of research into toxins that people smoke including cannabis - did you know that arsenic is one of the ingredients in tobacco?
Why not do a google search and get educated about those cancer causing toxins people are choosing to contaminate their bodies with.
Some users will tell you its friendly to share and others may say it is because they can't afford to have one whole one each, yet others will tell you it is less harmful. Probably all answers are the correct reasons they pass the cigarette around, so take your pick.

It's a social thing dude, and it saves everyone having to skin up themselves - usually someone is really good at it and when push comes to shove it's nice to share.
Why not offer your pint round next time ? You might make a new friend.

Unless you are like cheech and chong, people share joints. It is rude to smoke a joint in front of somebody without offering. Everybody wants some.

its because smoking is better when done sociably and you do it to get everyone on a good vibe. I had a wicked time in Dam with some US girls. We just got high in a coffee shop chatting about cultural differences. Top ladies.

i asked a guy from seattle this when i picked him up in my land rover on solstice morning 1991ish...
we were avoiding teh coppers... and stopped in malmesbury for a full english breakfast... tea, two sugars and a spliff...
he said it was coz they skinned up with pure weed.. pass it around, or it just goes up in smoke...
we all used to pass teh spliffy... nowadays we all smoke weed, and at those prices buy your own!

sometime you don't have any dope but your friends do and vice versa so its sharing the wealth. It is also a socal thing passing one to your friends.
