Peak fertility can change depending on the woman, it is usually 14 days after the START of the period so y ou count starting the cycle. You can also find out when you ovulate by measureing temperature and at about day 12 start taking temp. when you ovulate your temperature can actually increase 1-2 degrees celcius

You count first day of bleeding as day one. Stop counting the day before next period. You ovulate 2 weeks BEFORE your period is supposed to start (ie. 28 day cycle O day 14. 32 day cycle O day 18, 40 day cycle O day 26) Once you have figured the target ovulation day you should have sex every other day for about 2 day prior and 2 days after. Also helps to track basal body temp (shows ovulation between when temp drops to low and raise high). You must track every day first thing in the am. Probably take few months to show a clear pattern. Also you can tell alot about ovulation from your cervical mucus.
Good Luck

I have been using BBT charts. BBT stands for basal body temperature; basically it's your body temp at a complete resting state. You take it first thing in the morning, before you even get out of bed. You should have at least 3 hours of straight sleep, and should take it as close to the same time of day as possible.
Because women's cycles vary, it's hard to say you'll definitely ovulate on the 14th or 17th days... my cycles run short and I o sooner than that.
In general, your temperature should remain steady (within a .4-degree range) until ovulation. Some women will have a drop in temp right before they ovulate. Once you are ovulating, you will see a jump in temperature of at least .4 degree. It can be as much as a full degree of more. During that time, you are the most fertile.
Eggs can only survive for 12-24 hours once you've ovulated. Having sex up to 3 days prior and no more than a day after is the best way to ensure a pregnancy.
Note: it will take a few months of charting to see a real pattern, but it's a useful thing to take to your doctor, particularly if you've been having difficulty conceiving.

You start counting from the day you start your period. The day you see frank bleeding should be considered as day 1. if you normally have a 28 day cycle, then you are ovulating on day 14. three days before and after day 14 are considered as the most fertile.

Day one of your period is the first day you start counting. Typically ovulation occurs at day 14. Peak fertility is just before ovulation and then just after.

If you want to track fertility traditionally it goes by cycle day(CD). The first day of your cycle is CD1. www.FertilityFriend.com was a big help to me. If you input your cycle information it tells you when to test and predicts ovulation dates. I used it and it helped me. It also has alot of information about the TTC process. Good Luck..
