You need to take your passport photo, get the proper identification and fill out a form.
You can get your picture taken at most places like Walgreens, CVS and sometimes even the post office. That will be the first thing you will need to do. It costs around $10, and you need two of them. Anyone that takes passport photos will provide both. Some people do it on their own, but just be sure to read the instructions because there are certain restrictions you have to have, size, etc.
Second you will need to bring your birth certficate and it must be the original or an orginaly remake, no copies or anything like that. so you want to be sure to bring that.
Finally you need to go to a location where you can fill out the passport application. Most post offices do this, you just need to ask and make an appointment. The form requires a lot of information, so you may want to ask to bring it home. All but a few things can be done outside of the post office on your own.
When you submit the form it will cost around $100 for regular shipping and quite a bit more if you need it faster.

To get a US passport go the the post office and ask for a form. The form takes 15mins to fill out( if you have all the information). Go get a passport pictures taken at Walgreen's, rite aid ($19.99). Return to the post office with you Birth Cert, the form, the two photos and the payment ($89.00 I believe). You will NOT return home with your Birth Cer. They send it in with the two photos, and the form. It took 2-4 months to get my passport and Birth Cert in the mail.

Every place is different. Go to your nearest post office and they can tell you where in your area is the appropriate place.

its one word first of all....and they are issued by the US state department...application at the post office.
