Hi there. I am having a bit of a problem deciphering your question. Are you saying that your girlfriend had her period from Dec. 29th to Jan. 2nd and then started again on the 5th to the 7th? If that is what you are saying I would assume that it was just a period with a bit of a lull in it. It is not all that uncommon for a woman to stop bleeding for a few days and then to start again. I would not assume that it was two seperate periods.
I wanted to correct some information that you were given also. Someone told you that the week before and the week after your girlfriends period were "safe" as far as pregnancy goes. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most women ovulate on the 14th day of their cycle which would be one week after their period. The BEST time to try to conceive is during that week, after your period is gone, starting on day 11 thru to day 14. Unless you are tying to become a Daddy I would not use her advice.
As one other person told you, the first day of your girlfriends menstrual period (not discharge but bleeding) is day number one. Your girlfriend will ovulate half way between that first day and the first day of her next period. If she is on a typical 28 day cycle that would mean that she would ovulate on the 14th day. Once the egg is released it is only viable for 12 to 24 hours so that makes the days before she ovulates the best time to get pregnant (or to avoid sex if you do not want to get pregnant). Sperm can live up to 5 days during ovulation so that makes the week after her period (days 11 thru 14) a very good time to conceive.
I hope I have been able to answer your question.
Take care and good luck

What you mean is that the menstruation period started on 29 of Dec. and ended on 2nd of Jan., right? That makes it 5 days. Whats kind of dischange did she have on the 5th and 6th Jan. - blood or change of vaginal secretions? Speaking of ovulation, we count the days from 1st day of the menstrual cycle - that is 29 of Dec. Then 5 or 6th of Jan. makes it 8 or 9 days from the 1st day of the menstrual cycle when it is absolutley possible to have ovulation. That's what happened to me - I had ovulation on the 8th day or somewhere around it and as a result I'm pregnant and happy for it.

If you are trying to use natural family planning methods to plan or avoid a pregnancy...the first day of her period is considered day #1. I am not sure if that is what you are meaning by her dates being Dec 29th to Jan 2, or if you are using those days as your "most likely" days. There are other signs to look for when using this method to determine fertility...such as changes in temperature. Hope I understood your question correctly.
