In the Group B Match against Zimbawe played at Nevill Ground,
Turnbridge Well on 18.06.1983, India were struggling at 17 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Kapil Dev scored 175 runs from 138 balls with the help of 6 sixers and 16 fours which rescued India and set a target of 266 runs for the loss of 8 wickets to Zimbawe and India won the match by 31 runs.

I consider that heroic knock of Kapil Dev was the turning point and instrumental for india to enter the final.

It was team effort

Mohinder(Jimmy) Amarnath was the Man of the Match of
both the semi final and the final

Of course Kapil Dev took a brilliant catch to dismiss
Sir Viv Richards who was batting well in the final.
But still everyone contributed and it was sheer team effort.
In 1983 the match total scores were smaller compared to today
Even scores around 20s were valuable
every run scored counts
every catch counts
every wicket counts
every stop in the field counts
Best Wishes,

In the semi-finals against England, Yashpal Sharma top-scored with 61 runs, followed by Sandeep Patil (51 runs) and Mohinder Amarnath (46 runs). Amarnath's accurate seam bowling fetched him the top-order wickets of David Gower and Mike Gatting. He gave away only 27 runs in his 12 overs, for an average of 2.25 an over, the lowest among all Indian bowlers. He was named the Man of the Match.

In the finals, India batted first against the West Indies which arguably boasted the world's best bowling attack. The Indian team did not fare well, with the entire team being dismissed for a low score of 183 in 54.4 overs, well short of the alloted 60 overs. Amarnath gave the Indian innings some much needed stability, lasting the longest of all Indian batsmen. He occupied the crease for 80 balls and scored 26 runs. Kris Srikkanth top-scored with 38 runs, followed by Sandeep Patil (27 runs) and Mohinder Amarnath. After the poor batting performance India chances were deemed almost non-existent. However, the Indian bowling exploited the weather and pitch conditions perfectly to bowl out the West Indies for 140, thus winning the finals by 43 runs. One memorable sight was Kapil Dev running a great distance to snag a catch of the premier West Indian batsman Vivian Richards. Amarnath and Madan Lal were the joint highest wicket takers, 3 wickets each. Amarnath was the most economical bowler, conceeding only 12 runs in his 7 overs for an average of 1.71 per over. For this all round performance he was once again awarded the Man of the Match award.

Present the evidence, your judgment can not be accepted on mere speculations, you have made here. If Sri Lanka sold itself, then fine, why didn't India do such things during the Aussie reign of nearly a decade. If BCCI bought this cup, they were capable of buying other & more. Pl give up all these theories, it will carry on being projected till 2015, then India will relinquish its reign. So don't stay jealous for that long period, it won't do any harm to BCCI & India..

Who helped is not important because cricket is a team work. India entered and won the finals because of the team efforts.
