Seems more like jingoistic Yellow Journalism of a pretty irresponsible type to me. I prefer the BBC, Christian Science Monitor, NPR, and AP wire copy. I have seen outright distortions and false information on FOX. By the way, there is no such thing as an islamofascist. This was a label conflated by the Bush Administration to scare voters into supporting Bush's war. I get my news from many, many sources. Not predigested and spun sound bites from a corporate media network with right wing agendas.

It's funny to watch the sheep. If you get your news from only one source, you are voluntarily becoming a puppet, a 'dittohead'.
Fox has it's good & bad points, just like CNN. But even if you watch both Fox & CNN, you aren't getting the full story.
But that's a lot of work, becoming & remaining an informed citizen.

No. I just have a strange fascination with the truth. The truth means listening to ALL if the relevant facts and information. Not just what Fox thinks I should hear.

None of the networks are fair and balanced, you need to go to a lot of sources and make your own determination of what is going on. Sad but true.
If you are that lazy, by all means just listen to one network and get a distorted view of the world.

I'm not sure that all liberals *hate* FOX News but, to the extent that they do I would suggest that it's because it's an overtly Conservative media organisation (compared to other news sources, which they perceive to be unbiased).
The converse is also true incidentally: Conservatives hate the likes of CNN, ABC & MSNBC because they consider them to have a Liberal bias and yet they see no bias in FOX News (they truly believe FOX is "Fair and Balanced").
Personally, although I would classify myself as Liberal, I don't hate FOX News. It provides a Conservative voice in the media and there's nothing wrong with that. The only problem is that you can't call it "News".
One of the other respondents above mentioned that they "tend to agree with [FOX News] more" on Foreign Affairs coverage and turn to CNN for domestic coverage. This remark speaks volumes in itself. One doesn't watch the news to have one's opinions reinforced, one watches the news to *get the facts*. I recall a University of Maryland/Knowledge Networks survey conducted after the invasion of Iraq which asked respondents how they consumed news and what sources they used. To judge the quality of the news, they asked all respondents three questions about the war:
1. “Is it your impression that the US has or has not found clear evidence in Iraq that Saddam Hussein was working closely with the al-Qaeda terrorist organization?"
2. "Since the war with Iraq ended, is it your impression that the US has or has not found Iraqi weapons of mass destruction?"
3. "Thinking about how all the people in the world feel about the US having gone to war with Iraq, do you think the majority of people favor the US having gone to war, views are evenly balanced or the majority of people oppose the US having gone to war?"
(For those still unsure, the correct answers are, in order "has not", "has not", and "majority of people oppose").
The study found that of those whose primary news source was PBS/NPR, 23% got at least one question wrong. By contrast, 80% of FOX News viewers got at least one question wrong. 80%!
Now, if you were head of the news output at Fox, you might be ashamed of your comprehensive failure to correctly inform the viewer but, and here's the kicker, the function of Fox News is not to inform but rather to frame the issue from a particular point of view. The objective is that the Conservative viewer should walk away with a Conservative view about the news. I would suggest that this is what Liberals dislike about FOX News.
Again, to restate, I have no problem with this as an objective: Conservatives represent 50% of the public and should have plenty of media outlets that reflect their views. It's just that you can't call it "news". Reporting the news requires journalistic integrity and that seems to be a quality that is sorely lacking at FOX News.
It is, however, lacking in a number of news organisations (the numbers from the above survey for print media and network news weren't as bad as FOX's but they weren't great either). The only answer seems to be to get your news from more than one source. Personally, I don't consume much TV news: I get my fix online (BBC, Reuters, AFP). You should even try Al Jazeera English! (and don't tell me it's "islamicfascist [sic] propaganda" until you've watched it). I don't watch much FOX News because I don't need to be told what my opinion about the news is supposed to be: just give me the news and I'll form my own opinion thank you very much.
The last remark in the question, "Liberals hate a level playing field. They lose every time" is in tiself ridiculous. The news is not about Liberals or Conservatives and it's not about winning or losing: it's about the truth and sometimes the truth doesn't fit your view of the world. As the saying goes, "you're entitled to your own opinions, you're just not entitled to your own facts".

People tend to think the news is "fair and balanced" when it agrees with their politics. They need to throw conservatives and liberals out of the government and put in Civil libertarians.

They are the only one showing the evils of the Muslim terrorists.
Someone has to because you sure don't get it anywhere else.
Arkin can call our troops are in it only for the money or spit on them only 1 outlet protests his words the others say nothing.
Look up Abu Grabi they are all over it.
Now look up beheadings you find zip.
Funny though 1 news outlet drives them nuts if they dare show another view. I thought liberals were all about open minded and accepting another myth bits the dust.
Or look how unglued they come out about Rush.
I like Fox because you hear stories others won't cover because it dares show the evil we are facing.

I hate Fox News because they spend far more time showing people *talking* about their opinions about the news than they do showing clips of the actual congressmen and press conferences. In other words, it's more opinion than news (and often false opinions--no, Obama was *not* educated at a militant Islamic school, and no, Clinton isn't the one who originally leaked the story). I'm not saying that MSNBC is that much better on its opinions (although it does give more time to the news clips themselves).
If Liberals lost on every level playing field, you'd be speaking with a British accent.

Liberals hate Fox News because it exposes their nightmarish stupidity, lack of common sense, and hyprocrisy. Let's face it, when Bill O'Reilly argues with a Liberal, no matter how much time he gives the guest to make his point, Bill usually prevails.
That's what really burns Liberals. If the whole network were like Shawn Hannity, who can't shut up for 10 seconds (yeah, I've counted !), Liberals could snip that "Fox isn't fair. I never got a chance to speak". But that's not the case. Alan Colmes makes sure they get their turn, and Bill O'Reilly fastidiously adheres to his "The Final Word" policy: the guest gets to wrap up the conversation without interruption.
Still, the Liberals come away looking like some doofus, which infuriates them. They can't bring themselves to admit their thinking is hazy and muddled. They can't dredge up the moral courage to admit they have no consistent, logical viewpoint.
I started watching Fox News because a colleague told me, "It's interesting, but Bill O'Reilly lies all the time". In the following year, I challenged my friend to point out EVEN ONE INSTANCE of lying. The best he could do was to dispute a couple facts. Yes, that's right. Bill O'Reilly, between his radio and tv show is on the air dozens of hours every week, and his accuracy ratio was about 99%, and his truthfulness (or truthiness, if you listen to Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central) was as close to 100% as I can calculate.
Yes, Fox is more than just fair and balanced. O'Reilly knows he won't be able to get guests if he makes them look like idiots (talk about shooting fish in a barrel), so he softballs them a lot.

Fox News is not fair and balanced. I'm beginning to think MSNBC is becoming just like them. Frankly, all the media in the United States sucks Big Time. I don't believe a goddamned word from any of the networks.
