I don't have a concrete answer, mostly speculation. The age you point out is about the time when girls start puberty and seek interest from boys. A few generalizations: 1.A lot of boys don't like when girls are smarter than them 2.It's not "cool" in general to be smart 3.Even today science and math are "male" dominated fields. When someone thinks of a doctor they often imagine an old man in a white coat. Also there have been many studies that show women's brains have adapted to be superior in language and organization skills whereas men's brains are better equipped for spatiotemporal and pattern recognition skills. I don't know if that means they have more complicated blood supplies to parts of their brains or larger parts of certain areas. Maybe it just means that standardized tests show this trend repeatedly and across cultures (which I do know is true). Again, sorry no sources, mostly guesses.

Its actually related to age. Your bro feels it is more fun to hang out with friends than study. All that has to be done is sit with him and kindle his interests in the subjects with a lot of activities and experiments which you too will enjoy.
Actually you could just show him how maths and science is relevant in everyday life and how exciting and wonderful it is to learn the subject.
All the best.

easy...the teachers probably aren't working on teh studentds interests or they aren't being active enough. Tell him to just *imagin* the teachers making teh subject interesting...well for science, that is. For Math... if he's good at, just be good at it, if he needs help, ask the teacher for it. ...and if he's just bored...secretly doodle in your notebook

People are afraid of Maths and Siciences. Their interest can be aroused by getting rid of their fears and helping them understand how interesting it is.

It seemed to me that boys lost interest in anything but girls after that.
