That is not correct.
Wikipedia has the following to say about the history behind the construction of Taj Mahal.
Shah Jahan, emperor of the Mughal Empire during a period of great prosperity, controlled extensive resources. In 1631 his second wife died during the birth of their daughter Gauhara Begum, their fourteenth child. Shah Jahan was reportedly inconsolable. Contemporary court chronicles contain many stories concerning Shah Jahan's grief at Mumtaz's death; these are the basis of the "love-story" traditionally held as the inspiration for the Taj Mahal. 'Abd al-Hamid Lahawri, for example, noted that before her death the Emperor had "but twenty white hairs in his beard," but thereafter many more.
Construction of the Taj Mahal was begun in Agra soon after Mumtaz's death. The principal mausoleum was completed in 1648, and the surrounding buildings and garden five years later. Visiting Agra in 1663, the French traveller François Bernier wrote:
I shall finish this letter with a description of the two wonderful mausoleums which constitute the chief superiority of Agra over Delhi. One was erected by Jehan-guyre [sic] in honor of his father Ekbar; and Chah-Jehan raised the other to the memory of his wife Tage Mehale, that extraordinary and celebrated beauty, of whom her husband was so enamoured it is said that he was constant to her during life, and at her death was so affected as nearly to follow her to the grave.

It was built because it was only to be a grand piece of architecture, not for the sake of love. Yell at me if you think I'm wrong, but it's true. Also, do you know why almost no one can go inside the Taj Mahal? Inside this grand place, along the walls, are the plans that were used to build it.

Throughout history it has been perfectly normal for wealthy and powerful people to build their funerary monuments while they are still alive. The obvious example is the Pyramids of Egypt, which could represent the greatest achievement of a Pharaoh. Throughout India there are numerous examples of elabourate final resting places being built while the person for whom they were intended was still living.

you are right but emperor shahjahan was well aware of the end of life like all of us.
he wanted to build / make something where he wished that they both be buried.
the reason being trying to achieve immortality , remembrance and a tribute to himself AND HIS BELOVED WIFE ; so that they never fade from the memory of people , forever.
