Don't bother with the ER unless the pain is trulyunbearable, because the actual treatment is just tape.
Tape the little toe to the toe next to it and try to stay off it.
For the pain, try elevating the foot (a pillow under the foot may help) and take some OTC pain reliever ... I prefer aspirin, but any one will work.
Sorry. I know it hurts from personal experience. I also know that it only hurts for a week or so (and not as badly as right now).
Good luck.

Cheaper to go to a doc-in-a-box clinic than to go to the ER. Few have died from a broken toe.
They will probably tape/splint it to the next toe and you won't wear more than a sandal on that foot for a while. They might put it into a walking cast to avoid the flexing that occurs as you move. Give them a call and see what they say. Probably give you a prescription for Tylenol 3 too.

Theres not a lot the doctors can do for a broken little toe - I've done mine in a few times. (I used to do artistic roller-skating)
The first couple of times I went to ER, but all they did was wrap it up. That is pretty much all you can do - tie a bandage round your little toe and the one next to it, immobilising both toes - wear wide, comfortable shoes and rest it - keep it up high and check the blood flow is going through to the toe OK..
Good luck!

I broke my small toe also and was told to tape it to the next toe. Sounds ghetto, but whatdya know, it healed! For the pain, if you don't have anything like vicodin or codeine, try a maximum strength OTC painkiller. Even if it's just scotch tape, tape the two toes together and try to stay off your feet. Good luck!

I wouldn't waste your time going to a doctor.I have broken a toe twice, the first time I wasted hours in an ER,they didn't even both with an xray.I just had my toes taped together and that was it.The second time,I just taped it up myself. It healed fine and saved me a wasted afternoon.

Take a piece of cotton, place between the 4th and 5th toe. Tape them together. You'll be surprised by how well this will help.
This is what the ER will do.

I think all they will do is either try strap it to your other toes until it heals and give you pain killers or tell you to stay off your feet until its better, but if its hurting you so badly then why not go and see what they can advise you to do, good luck.

sir you need to go to a foot doctor asap..if you value your future use of that foot..i had a similar problem and screwed around and latter i had to have an operation as complications set in and the operation had to be approved by the insurance company..well i could hardly walk for the pain and this was years after i broke the damn toe..so get it right the first time and you won't have to be laid up for a two months in a cast later...

Well, you might have to go to the Doctor's at least, they might have to xray it and see where the break is and then go from there, but you could also tape it to a flat stick and straighten it so that it can heal. Stay off your feet as much as possible. Hope that helps alittle. =)
