Most two way undivided carriageways are about 16 feet wide in total.

Normally large vehicles are the artics with the 40 ft long trailer in tow. Vehicles with large loads, or larger vehicles that need the whole of the carriageway in both directions, or are very slow moving, would need a police escort . The normal size lorry would be seen to take the whole of the directional carrigeway on most roads. Dual carrigeways would accomodate two abreast and some motorways would take three. Hope this clarifies the issue.

It depends on were the road is (village, town etc) and the natural geography as to how wide the road is and how fast you can go.

Some of the roads in very rural areas are a lorry width (wing mirrors touching the hedge either side) wide, and vehicles can go at 60 down these.
