That is the engine.... all cars use the 4 stroke engine... only some motorcyles and very small engines, like lawn mowers use 2 stroke...

Yes. It is about engine.
The two-stroke engine differs from the more common four-stroke engine by completing the FOUR STROKES (intake, compression, power, exhaust) in only TWO STROKES of the piston rather than four for every power stroke. TWO STROKE cycle engines operate in two strokes Power/exhaust and Compression/intake.

Surely it is only by type of engine.
Now see 1.petrol is to be sucked in the engine.-suction
2.it has to be ignited to get power stroke -compression& ignition
3.burnt gas has to be throne out -exhaust
In Two Stroke engines all these actions are performed within TWO up&down movments of piston
And in 4 stroke engines .it takes four up&downs of piston.

The cycle of the engine, its not related to any other part of the car. It is the amount of times the pistons move in the cylinders for each time the fuel is burnt to make the engine go.

If you want to check out how a common, four cylinder, four stroke engine works check out this cool 3D screensaver of how the engine is assembled and how it works.
It,s free to download but the file is rather large! Go to this place for more

fours strokes make the piston go go up and down 4 times. (intak, compression, power, exhaust). 2 strokes go up and down 2 times. they just combine the strokes. They create more power, but are less healthy for the enviorment.
