The film was available on video around about 1997. The cover of the video involved a very pale-skinned young woman sprawled in amongst very floaty voile drapes, with a young man close by. It had a one-word title, which I believe was a name, possibly beginning with a J or an R. It was a romantic fantasy film, live action, not animation or anime and was so beautiful I've completely forgotten the plot. *chuckle* Any ideas?

After, literally, weeks of trying to remember the name of this film, it came to me just moments after posting the question.

Orlando.

~wipes forehead~ Must have been all your collective brainpower that helped dredge it out of the sludge that is my brain. Thanks for trying, everyone!

The first thought that comes to my mind is "Signs"- a film with Mel Gibson, Joaquin Pheonix and Rory Culkin, directed by M.Knight Shyamalan, produced 2002. There is a scene which explains how the priest (Gibson) loses his faith due to the death of his wife, and the camera cuts to a flashback where we see his wife dying, trapped against a tree by a car. If memory serves me correctly I think this is how the scene played out and what it looked like. Try "Signs."
