I had before and I thought that I would rather go natural without pain medication than to ever put the epidural again - but, unfortunately my baby does not want to come out on his own despite the fact that everything is okay - how has your experience been with the epidural?

I tried all home remedies ever thought of; sex, spicy food, castor oil, evening primrose oil, nipple stipulation, relaxation, squatting, walking, hot baths, teas - and everything failed. This goes to show you that home remedies are just old tales.

Just keep in mind that your baby wants out! You'll be holding him or her soon. I too was scared of an Epi, so I went natural, but if that can't be done, it simply can't be done. I wish you best! Try to focus on the baby. It all goes so fast anyhow.

The reason why you are so frustrated and scared is because your baby is not ready to be born. But I, like you, would rather see you have natural labor than the drugs OR the C-section. I had 2 unncessary C-sections, but I will spare you the details.

Go to Walmart (or some other pharmacy) and get some BLUE COHOSH. The Indians used it during labor to help dilate the cervix. It has been used to start real labor, but it will not start labor unless it is time. I would start by taking 2 capsules. Maybe do this every 12 hours? It's not an exact science and it is based on your own body chemistry. But, like I said before, it shouldn't cause false labor, only induce actual labor.

I, personally, would NOT be induced with man-made drugs. If you've never been induced, I'll explain. This will cause you more pain that you have ever imagined and you will BEG for pain medications and then your child will be drugged and he will stop being an active part of the labor process. This will lead to them saying you're not progressing and wanting to go ahead with that C-section. And at this point, if you are under 8cm dilated, they will give you that dreaded epidural. If you are over 8cm they will NOT give you the epidural and will give you general anesthesia. Sounds like I've been here before, huh? Anyway.

I had an epidural with my first baby. No problems, no complications. But my second baby was born under general anesthesia and I would give anything to have those first moments back so I could experience her coming into this world.

Home remedies are intended to aid the body in the beginning of labor on the slight chance that your body is READY. But if you have tried these things it means that your body is not ready. Did you know that your doctors could be off on your due date by as much as two weeks? Obstetrics is not an exact science. Only God knows when your baby was conceived. You do not want to induce labor when it is not time because you would be doing a disservice to your precious baby. Blue Cohosh is natural and it will not hurt to try it. But inducing with drugs is NOT natural and it can lead to many problems.

I am the type of girl that doesn't consume anything artificial so you could imagine the disappointment when I was informed I needed a c-section.

Now for the facts, the epidural wasn't painful at all. I held onto my partner (tell him /her to stay absolutely still for you) and the surgery feels like very very light tugging within you.

You will shake because of the epidural and you will feel very thirsty. They will give you a disgusting drink but most women chuck this up (it taste like old coins).

It will perfectly fine. Frightening I know but millions of women go through with it and they have more experience in c-sections now than ever!!!

I was a little concerned reading the first post - please don't pay attention to scare mongers like him. If infact it was true, then that was based on the technology 20 years ago. How far have we come from then? If you are using a computer (as you are) then your medical practitioner will administer enough pain relief for your body. If you live in a hut made of cow dung then panic!!!

Dont stress its not good for the baby. My 3rd child was born by C-section only 9 weeks ago. I had a spinal block which is different form an epidural but it worked fine no problem at all. With my 1st child i had an epidural and it didnt work so i had him naturally, i dont know if my body rejected it or i was to far in labour for it to work. If your really worried about it you should discuss this with your doctor. Before they start the operation they do a few test one with an ice cube to see if u can feel it on certain parts of your body along with a sharps test, if you cant feel these in the right spot then your fine. I was scared when i went in for mine but things went smoothly and i stressed for no reason. Good Luck

I have 7 children. I had an epidural with one, during labor. I had no complications. I also had and epidural with my last baby and had a C-section. It is much better than general anesthesia in my opinion. I would do it again if I had to. Talk to your Dr. about your fears. I am sure they can help to put your mind at ease.

Best of luck to you!

How far over are you? Have they tried induction with an oxytocin drip? I have not had an epidural but I have heard mixed reports. Sometimes they do not work and only numb one side of the body or wear off too soon. The only other option is to go under a general anesthetic, but then you will miss the whole experience completely.

I have had two babies via ceasarians and I had no probs with the epidural at all, I didn't even feel them administer the needle! I guess I am lucky - BUT I was in labour for 15 hours with my first baby before the gave me an emergency caesar.
My first baby was 8 days overdue and my friend told me to bake a chocolate cake and eat it - YOU have to bake it and You have to eat as much as you can.... I baked the cake and ate it and 4 hours later I was in labour.... AND it has worked for other people as well..... There is no harm in trying

You still have 5 days so hang in there! Keep doing all those home remedies as long as you can!
I had a C-section and had a spinal..it's really not that bad. During the procedure I was awake and talking to my hubby and the doctor. I got to hold my son right away. The only adverse reaction I had was afterward, my legs filled with water and I had to wear those beautiful support leg stockings..ugh! You should have seen my hubby trying to put them on me...LOL!
Congrats & good luck!

I had a c-section and i asked to be put to sleep. I will never get why anyone would want to be awake knowing they are getting cut wide open. They asked if i wanted an epidural but i refused.
Just be put to sleep. It is no big deal.
