It should always be considered, especially if they're threatening other people. If they're saying it, they're thinking it. You really have to know the person. Some people anger easily and spout off but then cool off quickly and are rational again. It's never a good sign though. Beware of escalation in the threats, both in intensity and frequency, and if there's ever any actions to accompany the threats- get away and stay away. Your safety and the safety of those around you must come first. If they're threatening to harm themselves it may just be for attention but look for the same signs and encourage them to get help. Be careful.

I know it does not work in teaching. Kids catch on quickly. Making a threat to a student isn't a good idea, and not following up on it is even worse. I might take the person seriously by not the threats. You can only cry wolf so many times.

Not nearly as much as if they were to follow through. But if they're making threats, there's a reason why- and that I still do take seriously.

Even if they never follow through it is still the threat that would do them in, at least for me. No one threatens me.
I would be like crying wolf a few times too often. But for me one threat would be enough.

No. Nor do I take maximum threats heavily in any respect. If somebody is going to bypass after my or mine, I doubt they are going to be creating a threat. merely as i does no longer make one. I act on threats before they become reality. I know too many astronauts to let it slide.
