In American Football you get 6 points for a touchdown alone, and immediately after you score, you have the chance for 1 or 2 points. The PAT (Point After Touchdown) is a short field goal kick for a single point, or you can "go for two" by trying for a 2-point conversion from the 2 yard line to the endzone. So depending on how successful you are, you can score anywhere from 6-8 points when you get a touchdown.

Six points. The team that scores then has the option to go for 1 extra point or 2. You get one by kicking a field goal. You get 2 by running a play. If you get into the end-zone then you get the 2. They're known as 2 point conversions.
