Actually, I have made a living fence of my friends. Sometimes, they get tired of standing so I give them a short break. Robert Frost once said: Good fences make good neighbors, but I see what you mean. Fences only protect the physical while friends protect what is emotional inside of us. Our peace of mind might be enhanced by knowing our property is protected by an alarm system and a strong fence, but our emotional peace of mind will be enhanced by knowing we have good friends, and that they will be there for us when we need them. By the way, you left the gate unlocked. There is a strange man lurking out in the backyard. Oops. Never mind. It's just the meter man. Just looking out for you. However, good fences are handy when you need someone to buy stolen property from you. I use Jimmy the Weasel as my fence. Everything he sells came off the back of a truck. Friends aren't of much use when it comes to this kind of fence.

I simply trust that everybody is inherently good and cross the bridge when I get there. I do not anticipate trouble and refuse to live in fear over phantom ill-willed beings bent on destroying me. I am not afraid of death....only a bit weary of the means.

I approach everyone as a friend and allow them to screw me over once. Luckily out of the 7 friends I have had in life, only 5 of them have taken advantage of that option.

I prefer a basic KISS self-defense and a couple of firearms. Fences can be breeched.
