I'm 41 weeks with high bp, but baby has always monitored well. The consultant who saw me yesterday has asked me to come in tonight to be induced but I am sooooo scared of hospitals. It was ok when it was just going to be me and hubby in the delivery suite, but being put on a ward scares me. How long did your induction take? And what was the worst part? I think if I can prepare for the worst I'll be ok in the end.

you will be fine. i was induced at 42 weeks. it does take longer to get started than i thought (usually 2-3 doses) but after that i found it went quite quickly.everybody was really nice. while i was waiting for labour to start i was allowed to walk round the hospital grounds as long as i was monitored regularly and my husband could stay all day. good luck x

Wish i could share my experience with you but i started contracting on the morning of the day i was due to be induced!!! I think nerves set in and i just went into labour on my own. Although i wasn't actually induced, they broke my waters to speed things up and i had to be monitored more - that was the worst part!! i wasn't allowed to move from the bed and i couldn't find a comfortable position as it was so narrow!! Just remember to move about as much as you can and spend a lot of time on all fours once in established labour to take pressure off your back and pelvis. At our hospital they like to give you the gel first (on a ward but behind curtains) and they sometimes let you go for a walk in the hospital grounds. They usually have a tv room where you can wait with your partner too. You won't be moved into a delivery room until you start contracting well, or if they need to break your waters.

My friend, however, had the gel and nothing really happened other than her cervix softening. After a few hours they broke her waters and she had her baby within the hour!!!

my labor was induced last month and honestly it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I got really excited because I knew that my baby was going to be here on that day, So I went to the hospital in a very happy mood. I also had high blood pressure and that's why then induced me at 38 weeks. My labor was 16 hours and I slept through most of it. When it came time to push I pushed for about 10 Min's and baby was in the world!

Ever body has different experiences. The pain you will feel really depends on if you have a high pain tolerance or not. Don't worry and get excited that your gunna be a mom soon! good luck and congrats!

I went through the same thing. I was so scared to be induced they start you out and monitor you alot and if still no progress they wait and offer you a sleeping pill TAKE IT I turned mine down :) It's not painful until you start getting contractions but if you have to have a C section like I did I didn't feel a thing and I was so scared I asked when they were going to start and they said we are just pulling your daughter out now and when you hear your baby cry for the first time you'll forget all about being in the hospital

Don't worry, they will look after you well. Just ask questions along the way of things you are unsure of.
I was put on the drip early in the morning, and was in labour all day. One thing I didn't know until much later, was that contractions from induction are very different than natural labour -- and I wish I would have known that. With natural labour, contractions come in waves, they ebb and flow, and build, so you are prepared as things progress. With being induced, the contractions just kind of hit you, BAM. However, with medication for the pain, your husband there, and with nurses and doctors, hopefully things will go okay for you.
For me, after a whole day of labour, my baby's heartrate went dangerously low, and I had to be taken for an emergency c-section. The cord was wrapped around his neck twice, but all was well with both of us.

I was induced at 39 weeks because of obstetric cholestasis. You've got nothing to worry about, honest. It took them 3 days to get me going, the started with giving me a stretch and sweep which did nothing. They then gave me a prostin pessary (sorry for spelling) now and then which also did nothing. They they broke my waters, which was by far the worst part, but nothing to worry about. I was then officially in labour and they put me on a drip to get my contractions going. My baby girl was born 19 hours later. All in all it took about 3 days with me, but you are a few weeks further on than I was, so you'll probably have it much easier. As for being on the ward, it's nice! You'll get to speak to other mums and see their little babies - that was the best bit. Make the most of your time in hospital, you'll need all the rest you can get!!

My first was induced and like you I was terrified, also I was abroad at the time which made me feel worse, I was put on a drip and felt contractions almost immediately, the worst part was when they break your waters and when you feel the babys head crowning, I was only in labour for 4hours and 20 mins, don't worry the nurses will take good care of you, take all the pain relief you are offered, even just for your own piece of mind.

Don't panic! It will be fine and once your in labour you will be on delivery suite with just your husband. They will either break your waters or do a membrane sweep neither of which are any real pain and at least it should kick start your labour. Think positive, you go to the dentist it hurts and you get a bill at the end which hurts even more. At least with labour it hurts but you get a gorgeous bouncing baby at the end-No contest!

i got induced at 41 wks with my first baby and it was horrible. i got took to the labour ward about 9.30 and they put me on the drip to induce labour, your contractions start straight away and i mean full blown ones, you dont get the gradual build up. i had a epidural about lunchtime b/c i was in so much pain. i had to push when the midwifes told me. this lasted for about 4 hours then they decided they would help me using forceps. they had to cut me to use them, i had my little boy at 6pm (8.5hours labour). the next morning i could hardly walk b/c of the pain, it took me week to recover.
I'm sorry to sound so hard but it was terrible. i went on to have 2 daughters after that and was so adamant that i would never go through that again and had the 2 of them without any drugs and without any assistance and i was great, it is a great feeling when you can feel your own body telling you to push your beautiful baby in to the world. as soon as i had my 3rd baby and i had fed her i was up and about having a bath and ready to go home, it was brill. if you do get induced i hope it goes much better for you. my 2nd labour was only 3hrs and my 3 rd was 20min after my waters brokes

I don't like hospitals and i had to be induced its uncomfortable and undignified at the time but once your in labour you forget all about it!!!. They tried inducing me twice over 24 hours luckily i went into labour b4 they had another go!!!. Labour was quicker and not as bad as anyone says were all individuals though. Good luck the end product is so worth it.
