Well, in Puerto Rico almost everyone speaks fluent English as well as Spanish. It would help to learn Spanish in case you apply for a position that requires speaking spanish to those who may not understand English. But go for it, there are many non speaking spanish people in Puerto Rico. Once you work with the natives, you will pick up the language very quickly, because that's what they will be speaking in the Restaurants. Yes, many Boricuan's and Boricua's are Bilingal. Don't even sweat it. Good luck in the future with your job there, and don't worry, you will be fine.

I don't see what the majority language in California and Texas have to do with Puerto Rico becoming a state.
Besides, there's officially no state language in the US. English is the most common language because the country as we know it was founded by mostly English-speaking people, but it's not legally required to know and use English in the States (of course, it could be extremely hard to get legal citizenship if one wasn't too good at English).

i do not think that that is a possibility. having lived in puerto rico for the last 15 years, i think that the mindset of most puertoricans is for the continued state of things.:i.e., free associated state. this way, they have just about all the rights including citizenship, without paying federal income taxes. also they can have their own Olympic teams and representation in the world of sports. while most puertoricans do understand and read English(it is taught from kindergarten through all 4 years of high school and it is mandatory) the majority of them are very hesitant to speak it in public. i guess like most people, they are afraid of making a mistake and being corrected.

No, Puerto Rico gets federal funding because it is a possession of the U.S. If it became a state it would lose all the funding it recieves. Also would be required them to adhere to all U.S. laws and guidelines. Plus they would have to start paying U.S. taxes as well

You live in one section of the state that speaks Spanish. Probably less then 10% actually do speak a language other than American.

And you are who? I doubt that either state will ever be mostly Spanish speaking. As for as Puerto Rico, that is another joke.
