California is the only way to go. It has the best nature diversity - national parks, forests, deserts, mountains, beaches, oceans, lakes - of any state. Some places like Yosemite, Death Valley, and Lake Tahoe can't be matched anywhere in the U.S. But most importantly, everything is within very reasonable driving distance of any major city and accessible by major highways.

Hawaii and Alaska are my next choices but it takes more effort (and $) to get there.

Throw a dart at the map. I live in North Carolina, and our western border is a mountain range, our eastern border is the Atlantic. Our barrier islands (the Outer Banks) are still dotted with small villages, but commercialism has started creeping in over the past few years. In between we have lakes, rivers, forests, caves, and farmland. Lots of state parks and trails. Everything and everyone here is really laid back-unless you're in a metro area of the state.

All that being said, I'd probably like to go to Alaska or the Grand Canyon, since I've never been to either.

I'd chose California.

My absolute favorite place for enjoying nature and relaxing is Yosemite National Park. You are surrounded by magnificent scenery that is absolutely awesome. http://www.nps.gov/yose/

There are beautiful wine regions throughout California...from the Napa Valley, to the Sierra foothills, to the Central Coast and even Southern California. Gorgeous scenery and great wines: http://www.cheers2wine.com

I'd pick somewhere on the coast, where there's ocean. Florida is good if there weren't tornados and storms! California has some real nice places ro relax. the SUN is very important. a lot of depression is usually related to rainy and cloudy weather! so go where there's plenty of sun and water. That ough to be good for relaxing. Hawai maybe ?!

Arkansas. It ain't called the Natural state for nothing. It has varied biomes with hilly areas to the north and west (the Ozarks) and smooths down to swamp land in the south and east. They rediscovered the largest woodpecker there in 2005 and it has many other types of wildlife. I live in NE Oklahoma and am very proud of my state but was awed when I drove to central Arkansas. The northwest has Fayetteville to visit for a more metropolitan setting and Hot Springs for a resort atmosphere. Branson, Missouri with its folksy atmosphere is just across the border. Also ,if you like, you can head to west central Arkansas and mine for diamonds.
