why does it matter, but usually you would know if there were kissing the same sex or by asking them if they are, one of my old friends from school confided in me bout it all and i helped her a a good few years on she eventually told her parents.
To me it didnt matter i know i am straight and having a gay friend doesnt matter.

You don't definitely know unless he/she decides to tell you.
Why not just ask them if you really want to know.
Sorry have just re-read your question not sure if you are asking the people how they determine if their friend is gay. The answer to that question is whats it 2U.

Have a chat about gay people and see wot he says and his reaction or if it was my friend i would ask him it wouldn't really matter to me.

I can't see it really matters. It's up to him. If you see kissing another man then that would be a giveaway I guess.
