If it looks OK just let it out. Gently tip the box on its side. What ever you do don't stick your hand in there. If it looks ill contact RSPCA or local woldife sanctuary is there is one.

Need more details really! Has it climbed into a box as a den (somewhere safe to sleep) and is okay or has someone placed it in a box hurt for someone to find, or is it real sick and hasn't the energy to move now?
I would take it to a wildlife rehabilitation centre where they can asses its condition. Maybe its been injured and placed there for someone to seek it some help. If it is okay the rehabilitation centre will know where is best to release it.
Look up animal rehabilitation centres, wildlife rescue centres etc and give them a call, they will come and collect if needed.
Good luck. Don't just let it go, it is probably sick if it hasn't already left the box on its own accord.

What type of box? Is it hurt?
If its not hurt, and you can tip the box over to let it out then do that. Foxes are generally really shy creatures & will be far more scared of you than you of it.
If its hurt or you can't get it out of the box then ring RSPCA or local animal hospital/VET
ps Foxes or nocturnal (night creatures,) is it in bed?

First thing, you are in violation of state and federal laws in the USA. So keep it quite. Take the fox box to the nearest woods, open the box, and let the fox free.
Leave the wild in the wild.

use your hands to get it out, if the box is not so deep, and if you dont wanna keep it, give it to some kid who like to have it or to any pets' keeping center...
Or:
Replace the "f" with "b", and the box will be empty.
