My husband and I moved into an apartment a few years ago and of course when we walked through the empty house it was spotless, then the day we brought our stuff over to start moving in, we discovered the person living there before us thought it'd be a LOVELY idea to leave us roaches to deal with! Ughhh, so after having professional sprayers come out, that didn't work, nor did any other type of poison, that was until out of pure desperation discovered boric acid. I SWEAR by this stuff. We had gotten rid of all the roaches within 2 weeks and never saw one after that!

The stuff is actually cheap, too! You can get a bottle at Wal Mart for about $1 and you can find it on the aisle that has all the pest sprays. It's in a big bottle with a pointed tip. The contents are a powder (some brands are blue powder and other brands are white powder, but it's still the same stuff) and all you have to do is put the tip to the ground and gently squeeze out the powder along any crevices in your house, ie. the floor boards, cabinet shelves, etc; basically anywhere that a corner/edge is made. I put the powder along all my walls where the carpet ran into the walls and then along all my shelves in the house. After the powder is down, take a brush/hand broom and sweep as much into the cracks as possible, vacuum up any excess powder that is in the main walk way area, but leave it in the cracks, don't vacuum that part up!

I've included links showing pictures of what the bottles looks like. Keep in mind however, each brand may have a different label, but the bottles will look the same, and of course just make sure that it tells you right on the front "BORIC ACID."

One last note, this stuff is safe to use around children and pets. My daughter was only 1-2 years old at the time and we also had a cat, and both my daughter and the cat are still alive and well!

Unfortunately, those tropical roaches you have in Hawaii are really tough to get rid of with "natural" methods. Not too many roaches respond to natural insecticides, and you always have the problem of your cat becoming ill from anything you use. There are insecticides that won't harm pets--but they aren't really strong enough for roaches. Call a professional exterminator. They can fumigate your house with an insecticide that will leave no residue for the cat. And they can also help you find out where they are coming from and what you need to do about it. For now, you can try sprinkling bay leaves around in your cupboards, or anywhere up off the floor (so the cat won't chew on them) and make sure all your food is sealed in airtight containers. If you can find the main nest, you can actually just smash them with a brick or hammer and kill them. Look in some place that is warm and damp (in Hawaii that's likely to be everywhere--that's why you have such a bad problem.) Under the sink is a favorite place--you may have to pry up the "floor" of the sink cupboard to find it. And once you kill as many as you can, then you can spray under there and put the boards back--the cat won't be harmed by that. But if you still have a problem, call a pro.

Buy pellets at hardware for roaches or earwigs. Read the box for instructions. When you set up the traps use thin pieces of wood. If you use anything slippery the bugs won't go there. Be careful the pellets are poison. One piece of wood on floor and the other one slanted to a prop. Put pellets on the one on the floor. Change the pellets about every three weeks, they get old. read the instructions, you may have to moisten them a bit. Make several traps. The idea is that the traps are shaded from light. Roaches go anywhere but they like sweets and grease. Ex: Back of stove or on bottom drawer. In stove where heat don't go and under cupboards also dark places

It depends what kind of roaches you have. If they are the big one's called waterbugs they are coming from outside and making their way in thru your plumbing areas use roach bait in those areas. If the roaches are the small brown ones ,good luck. Hurry call an exterminator. These are the German Roaches they live in your pantry and poop in your food. YUCK. Best way to get rid is again call a pro and he will have to bomb your house, if its bad. You will need to be out for 4 hrs. Make sure they warranty this service because usually you will need to schedule a call back, since they are more difficult to get to because of where they live and breed in your house. GOOD LUCK

Tried mothballs? That worked for us. Throw them up under your house, around the foundation, in your attic, and also spread them (a few at a time) in your living space. Buy roach traps and roach motels and put them EVERYWHERE. Also seriously calling an exterminator. A good exterminator will get rid of your problem fast for less than you are spending on bug bombs a year...

When I lived in Florida, about the only thing we could do to combat them effectively was to get the house professionally sprayed for pests, and keep the house in relative order. Especially don't leave food laying out.

If you're in a trailer, you're kind of out of luck, though. Everyone I knew that lived in trailers had a heck of a time trying to control them and none ever felt truly successful.

well have you tried cleaning up after yourself? I hate roaches to death. They love greasiness, food crumbs and trash. Clean your house on a daily basis with densol. especially the hidden corners.
