I was wondering if athiests, humanists, and agnostics are afforded the same legal protections against descrimination that religous people are? If for example one was denied a job simply because one does not believe in a god does this fall under desrimination and is the individual protected by law against such action?

Yes, they are afforded the same rights. In all cases there will be an exception to the law seeing as how their is a limitation to every right, and this will result into discrimination which can be proven just. Discrimination in regard to religion or lack there of are grounds for unfair discrimination though, and the victim could press charges.

You should be protected under the law if you were discriminated against and was denied a job because of any or no belief. The law protects athiests, etc. just like it protects Muslims, Catholics, Baptists, Witches, VooDoo, etc.

Refusal of employment because of religion is a discrimination and a violation of the constitution. The right to choose a religion includes the right not to belong to any religious group. Employment has nothing to do with religion as long as the applicant is qualified.

Employers are prevented by law from discriminating for any reason, including religious affiliation. They are not even permitted to ask the question.

We are protected, but in this country it can be a steep hill to climb. You carry the burden of proof.
It should be: Freedom FROM religion.
