My boyfriend wants her to have her own name and identity. Guys have Jr.'s all the time, in fact my boyfriend is a Jr. (We don't call him or his father by their names. His dad has a nickname and he has a completely different nickname. He hates his name because he feels it's an old man name.) If it's ok for guys to be named after their fathers, why can't girls be named after their mother's? She wouldn't have my whole name, just my first, a middle, and his last. We could call her by her middle name at home and at school they can call her by her 1st name, until she is old enough to decide what she wants to be called.
Our top choices are:
Delishia Jaelyn-Dionne
Jaelyn Dionne
Jaelyn Danielle.
His name begins with a J so we are going for a J name and a D name. My only concern with Jaelyn is that it's such a common name now. Everyone in her class will be named Jayla, Jada, Jaden, Jalen etc. Delishia makes her stand out! What do you think?

I love the sound of Jaelyn Dionne but I think you're right about too many kids her age with similar names. Delishia will set her apart, it's lovely. I think Delishia Dionne would be great, it just depends on the last name...hopefully that doesn't start with a D? If she it inheriting his last name, does she need his initial as well? If you feel strongly about it maybe Delishia Jae Dionne as a compromise...hey! That sounds pretty!

Everyone should have "their" own name. I am not saying that to have your parents name is a bad thing, but I think Jaelyn is the best choice for the first name.

Just my opinion : I think you can give your daughter your first name, but as her middle name. I think it's important that a child got her own name too.
If I understand well, you 1st name is Dalishia, your middle name is Danielle, and your bf's name start with a J, and you want this letter too.
So I suggest that you give your daughter a first name which start with a J (Jaelyn, Janet, Jane, Jocelyn, Jamie...). And her middle name will be Delishia or Danielle.
But just give her a proper name as a first name. I think it's better, so she'll have her own name and her own identity.

Please don't name your kid your first name. What about Julissa Dionne. It's not that I don't like your name its just that I was named after MY DAD........i'm a girl. I have a different kind of situation though. But you get my point. Anyway, I'm grown now and I love my name. By the way my name is Toni my dad's is Tony. Anyway,congratulations on the new addition to the family.

Not really, it doesn't make her stand out, b/c her mother already has her name. To me a Jr name is just not caring enough to make a person's child separate f/ ourselves. My hubby is a junior also, and I put my foot down and said no, if we had a son he would be an individual. We would've used my hubby's middle name for his first, instead. As for your boyfriend being a Jr and not wanting to name his daughter after you, he knows what he is talking about f/ experience, listen to him!!!

Name her something original and give her you name as her middle name. I agree that Jaelyn is very common. Maybe Jaida (it means Precious Green Stone), Janay (it means Mericful), Jasleen (my fav, and it means Dedicated) Jeslyn (it means Thrilling).All of those would go beautifully with the middle name Delishia.
