you can buy boot grips from outdoor shops, millets etc, they grip onto the sole of your shoes/boots, they are handy for treking and walking in difficult terrain, they should work for the snow and ice to, they are not that expensive either about a £5 for a pair, i think you can get them in metal or rubber, hope this helpsxx

cheap easy way is heat a metal bar up eg metal coat hanger and make a criss cross pattern on the soles and heels,just enough 2 get a grip.

cut some tread off a tractor tire and nail them to the soles of your boot's. voila, perfect grip in these treacherous conditions.

If the soles are plastic the edge a blunt of red hot knife pressed into them works for me

Rub the soles with sand paper. It will leave small scratch marks on the soles making them less slidy. I have tried it and it did work do it every time you wear them.

There are stick-on pads that strippers use to keep their footing while wearing six-inch and higher platform shoes. I think you can get them at places like Walmart and most drug stores. I think they are a Dr. Scholl's product...
