probably none of the fire breathing type. you've got komodo dragons, bearded dragons, which are lizards though the komodo has a poisonous bite due to all the bacteria in its mouth, you've also got the sea dragon which is in the same family as seahorses.
I think stories of monsters were made thousands of years ago to scare children into not doing the wrong thing or not go where they weren't supposed to, and over the years people just gave that monster a form, something big and scary looking, maybe give it the appearance of some kind of demon. big wings, big teeth and claws, scales, ability to breathe fire etc.
The chinese on the other hand believe dragons are good and treat them like gods. Thousands of years ago likewise, they may have believed the gods were responsible for giving them rain, and sunlight and everything else they needed, and they gave they're gods a shape too, long slender bodied dragons that look after different elements or lands, but the oriental dragons are made up of parts of other animals, probably since they consider animals as lucky; eg, scales of a snake, antlers of a deer, lions mane, talons of a bird of prey. their zodiac consists of different animals, horse, pig, rat, dog, etc. Plus they have the ability to fly without having wings. Lung is the chinese name for dragon.
'Dragon's World: A Fantasy Made Real' DVD really isn't something you should consider real. if it was they would have shown this on tv as a documentary. Don't get me wrong, I love this dvd, especially the bit with the courtship ritual, but it really only goes by the expression 'if dragons did exist at any time, this is how they would live and how they would breathe fire and such.' Not something to be mistaken as actual proof. It was all made by man. fossil skeleton and all.
If there was some proof that fire breathing dragons existed i'm sure we would have found it by now. besides, how would they breathe fire without burning their lips, tongues or even throats.

Yes, I do think that dragons are real. If they weren t, then how are they all throughout history all over the world? Well, the seadragon is in the same family as seahorses and most dragons are reptiles like the Komodo dragon and the bearded dragon. The reason we haven t foumd any bones is because they have to have the lightest bones ever if they want to lift themselves of the ground and fly. Because their bones are so delicate and fragile, they biodegrade very quickly in the soil. There is one type of lizard called the Draco lizard, (Draco means dragon in Latin) and they have this flap of skin that they use, just like the flying squirrel, to glide from tree to tree. There is also this one beetle (I forgot its name) that can shoot boiling acid from its behind. Don t you think that if beetles can fire boiling acid and squirrels can fly, that dragons have to exist? The dragon has a pouch inside its bottom jaw that holds this down cubelar thing. When it wants to breathe fire, the dragon lets gas from under its tongue and shakes the brown cubelar thing. It only needs one spark for it to egnite. There is so much anatomy that explains everything about these magnificent beasts.

All mythtology has basis of truth somewhere in history, part is from people seeing deformed animals and, without any knowledge of science at the time, and a strong belief in spirituality, they associated them with the supernatural, over time the tales changed to what we know them today, like urban myths.
Dragons never existed in the traditional sense that you think, not the Western or Eastern beliefs, only the komodo dragon I know to be the real dragon I know is real.

I think that dragons are definately real. you can see that the dragon is a major symbol in many different cutures. So you can conclude that dragons did roam the earth at one time. But i guess that you never see dragon bones in the ground opposed to like dinasaurs.

i think dragons are real. in many cultures, dragon are mentioned in ancient folklore all arround the world. to much of a coincidence... many describe dragons as big, lizard like creature, with the ability to spray fire from its mouth and some can even fly. this similiarity is found not only in one ancient literature, but from many, that spread accross the world.
so.. i conclude that in some time in the past.. dragons do exists

Science now considers dragons an extinct species of lizard family, which means dragons did exist some thousand years ago.
But whether they blew fire from their nostrils is something the researches have not yet confirmed.

Just what is a dragon?
On Earth, there is a species of lizard called Komodo dragon - but is it a dragon?
On Pern, there are winged dragons. (for more about Pern, read the sci-fi books written by Anne McCaffrey - they are fun and interesting)

Depends on what you think of as a dragon. I don't think that people in history just made them up out of their heads, but I also don't think that there's flying lizards that breath fire, but there's something out there that inspired them to write about them.
