when i put the flash drive into my computer, it tries to install drivers to make the player work.
it currently wont even turn on, i have tried checking the batteries but that doesnt seem to have worked either.
the computer cant format the drive because the computer cant even recognise the flash drive.

when i plug the mp3 player in for a while it also gets quite hot

I am not sure about that particular device but some of those small usb devices recharge the battery when they are plugged in to the usb port (that might be the heat you feel).

Check your setting to see which usb you have; if your pc is older it may not have usb 2.0. Try another usb port as well and see if the result is the same. If your pc is older the cheap way to upgrade would be a usb card.

If it is not installing the drivers on the computer properly and it is getting hot it sounds like that it is dead. My flash drive did that before it died. mp3 players are relatively cheap now so the cheap the easiest solution would be to get another one.
