Good Question. And before you get plummeted with lots of anger let me get to business.

First I want to say this I am a black woman

Now, not only do young black men wear there pants hanging off their butts. All races do it.... Are they imitating blacks? Or what they think is black? Or Cool? You decide. Here's the real question and then I'll tell you the answer.

Question: Where did this trend come from?

Before I answer this...I want all men and women who do this to listen up.

Answer: In prison some men walk around with their pants hanging down. The reason they did this was to tell other men that "they" were open for business. The term "punk" relates to the man wanting to be another man's "punk". To make it easier to determine who was accepting of this alternative lifestyle in prison they wore their pants down.

In the real world people who thought "gangster's" were cool, they began to "sag" their pants to imitate the prisoners.

Moral of this truth is: IF you aren't open for business, you might want to cover your hole cause someone will consider it an invite.

Well, a lot of people wear their pants half-way down, not just black men. They feel that it's cool. It's called their style.

It is the trend these days. Not only black men, white men also wear their pants half-way down.

Ok, it's not young black men it's young men. I see it in every race, in the city in the 'burbs in the north and south.

From what my X told me growing up in LA; the kids were impressed with the guys who got out of prison and one way you could spot the ex-cons as authentic was by the street clothes given to them at the time of release, sometimes way too big and falling off.

Dunno if it's true but hard to imagine that girls wear their little belly shirts and low rider pants and boys cover it all up, must be a drag for the girls..

Because they weren't loved enough as children. Black kids, white kids, it doesn't matter, their parents didn't have enough respect for themselves to teach their kids how to respect themselves.

If there are two black kids in front of me, one with his pants half way down to his damn knees, and another one wearing the exact same clothes, but with his pants up to his waist like they should be, I'm going to take the 2nd kid more seriously.

Of course, the first kid will then call foul and anger will ensue. I'm okay with that though because the 1st kid will hopefully realize that appearance DOES matter and no one with any decent amount of self respect would go through life waddling around like a blatant idiot just so he can say "Wud up dawg?"

I'm not a racist, I'm just realistic.

Oh so ONLY young African American men wear baggy pants? Typical--racially directed generalization. Get out more and you would see that most young people wear loose fitting clothing and it's got nothing to do with their race or ethnic group!!!!

Because they want to show/wear as much clothing as possible. Think about it, they wear very long shirts, 3 pieces of head-wear, and 3 (long) shirts. They look like clowns. Look at Lil' Jon for example. It's not just blacks that do this, but they are the majority.

Whoever that does it, it is stupid. Pants aren't made to be worn like that. It looks like you should be in prison.
