I'm just wondering if you women out there NEED your purse, or if it can be lived without.
The reason I ask is because I'm writing a novel, and am thinking about having a female character who doesn't use a purse... but I first want to know if it's something that can be lived without, or if there are needs (like the menstrual period) which demand having one handy.
So, the question is, do you *need* your purse? And, if so, what are your *needs* for which you use it? Thanks. :-)

A purse is something that can be lived without. Just women are known to use one cause that is the thing to do. We as women can always find different ways to keep things with us. most of us have some kind of pockets either in our pants or jacket. So I might say I could live with out one. I just use one cause of habit that was started. And women always think they have to stay looking pretty with all that makeup. But some of us are pretty no matter what with or with out. Postive attitued here.

Good lord man are you mentally challenged? It is totally against all womanhood to be without ones purse. In that purse is/are very individual secret women's business.
Women are taught from a very young age to keep all personals within one purse, and within big purses are smaller purses. All full of trinkets that mean something to a woman.
eg The small floral purse, usually within are very personal items eg menstrual pad/tampon. This small floral purse has been handed down from female generation to female generation, and is usually kept in a bigger purse for protection.
The change purse, a heavy little purse full of coin rarely used as females prefer the BIG money as we all know. This as well is usually kept in a Big purse for protection, it as well adds weight to the bigger purse, so females feel like they have many worthwhile things in their big purse.
The wallet - ohh this is the one women love full of the big $$$ and the one most often opened and is akin to the change purse. It was well is kept in a big purse.
The makeup purse- SIGH! this large purse, holds all the decorative essentials needed for women to decorate their face. It was well is kep in a Big purse.
Finally THE BIG PURSE - the one that holds the lot, little purses large and small, this big purse comes in many styles and goes everywhere with the woman. It can be used for many things but mainly as a tote purse of many other purses ( see above).
THE BIG PURSE is never to be held by a man, while a woman is shopping, as if it is, it is a sign among women, stating the fact that THIS MAN HAS BEEN BRANDED MINE HANDS OFF HE HAS MAHH BIG PURSE.

Oh yes i do. U see i do not use makeup, clear lip gloss is as far as i go. But i have my cell phone, my wallet, ipod, if my hair is not braided a comb, hand lotion, most important tissues. Other things are a pen, gum and a few other things. and ya during my period pads.
The only time i can go out with out a bag is when i have enough pockets to carry lip gloss, my phone and bank cards. I need a bag of some kind at all times.

I don't carry a purse unless I am wearing something that does not have pockets. I'm 29 and it still bothers my mom for some reason. I carry everything I need in my pockets.

i used to carry my purse all the time...it kept getting bigger and bigger...until i came to college...then carrying around a purse was too much of a hassle...so now all i have is a little wallet thing on my keys where i keep my important credit cards and such...its small but it works all the same.

Yes! we totally need it, for our things like phones, wallet, mirror, pen, smoke pack, and also for fashion, just like men need belts or watches, or hats. and plus that creates depth into your character, you can tell alot about what a person carry's.

I NEED my purse, for wallet, bank book. lipstick. hand lotion, advil. brush and comb. hair clips. candy and gum. oh and puffer in case i have asthma attack. Maybe your character can wear clothes with huge pockets. lol

I don't use one and I'm alive and well. I think it's annoying to keep track of it.
