I use a simple Excel spreadsheet. I can look at all expenses for the month and year in one glance, and I can spot areas I can dut expenses so that the extra $$ can go to debt reduction or savings.

If you'd like a copy of it, just email me!

Cash your check for the month and allocate an amount to each expense. You know your rent is $700, put that in an envelope. Your car payment is $400, put that in an envelope. You want $100 fun money, put that in your purse. Etc, etc. Take the cash you have left to the bank and put most of it into a savings account and the rest into a checking account as a back up, for emergencies only. And there you have a budget. You have to have self control, though. Don't dip into the rent envelope to pay for the pizza :) That's why you have a $50 eating out envelope! Hope you get there, budgeting is a beast. But it gets easier with time.
