from what i have read and seen, (outside of stem cells) it has been shown that even a spinal cord can regenerate new neural pathways if you make it ...in other words, the part that is injured is like a blocked artery...you can force the body to bypass it by repeating motions over and over, forcing limbs to move... i have personal experience with damaged nerves in my right hand-i had severed nerves in an accident, and had numbness for years that gradually began to go away as new neural pathways were created. it wont be easy, but since he is still rather young and probably will want to co-operate, you should get him into intensive therapy right away, so his spine can relearn how to move his limbs-dont mollycoddle him, make him work at it-its the only way (right now) that has been shown to get results...good luck to all of you, and dont give up!
