I believe both-- if you are nurtured in a family that is obsesses with success being measured as "things" to acquire, that equates to greed and genes but if you come from a home that denied you the little necessities of life and this led to ridicule in school and a lifetime of pain and shame- you would succumb to greed and environment-to want more and have more because you came from nothing and you need to be on the "other side of the fence" for at least once---so, I believe they are one and the same.........

Both. Personally I like the feeling of having money and buying things, but I know people who can easily give things away and never think twice. I am naturally like that, and so are they. But when you are rich and money and gifts are practically handed to you, or if you are poor and all of a sudden have gone up a class in society, chances are, because of your environment, you will want more and use money more.

My Grandma was poor and when she married up a class, nicer clothes and cars were more important to her than for my Grandpa, who was raised pretty well off....like she was making up for lost time.

Ignorance.
By nature, all living beings need things from outside for their growth. When man develops his knowledge, he will realize that his spiritual growth requires giving instead of taking. The Messengers of God teach lesson by giving even Their own lives.

environment... you don't necessarily have to be greedy because your family or relations are... it all depends on where you've been brought up and how you've been brought up and the way you've been taught to live... what background you come from and all that refers to environment

This is still undecided but culture is quite powerful and difficult to detect in its subtlety.
