In general what society can do is to be understanding and educate themselves in these disorders so they know how to respond appropriately with their care or just socialising.

A company I worked for in New Zealand provided these services

-Family support - support for families
-Supported independant living - support for clients living in their own homes
-Respite Care - 24hr staffed community homes for short stays where families can rest or clients want short stay
-Vocational Services - seeks education and jobs
-Psychological & Behaviour Support - specialise in behaviour
-Residential Services - 24hr staffed community homes for permanent residents
-High & Complex Needs Service - 24hr staffed community homes for permanent residets with challenging behaviour
-On-Call Service - 24hr emergency on-call
-Korowai Aroha Services - Elders who oversee everything for clients are taken care of

Besides these sevices they provided custom designed planned Life styles for their clients advocated for them and were very staunch about clients rights and cultural views

Identifying them first would help. Theres alot of kooks out there living normal lives that we would never know about. Until it was to late.
I think I read once that crazy was simply not conforming or thinking like everyone else in the normal enviornment or society. basically being differnt then everyone is crazy.
Who knows. There are a variety of meds. Unfortunitlly alot of people are in denile and will never admit they have a problem. Just like alcoholisim, if you dont start with admitting you have a problem someone has to inform you you do after a series of mistakes.
