All feeds, pass (strap) wires and switch wires are classed as live and should be marked brown (or red). If you have any neutrals they should be blue (black)

When you pull a three-way switch(don't think there's a two way)out of it's box,you will see that it has three terminals and a grounding screw.Like single pole switches ,three-ways control only hot wires. You may see a red wire,a black wire, and a white wire attached to the three terminals, but ALL are considered HOT. Two of these hot wires are " travelers"and one is a common wire. The common will be attached to the third terminal, which will be marked either"COM" or will have a darker screw. The two travelers will be attached to matching screws of the same lighter color.I hope this helps you out,but first and always turn the power off,and always check it after you do with a voltage tester.I'd like to hear more from you in Answers, so Be SAFE ! The original cable to the switch, should be red and black (presumption) If this is only 1 cable they should both be marked as phase (live). Red is OK black needs marking. 1 3 core + E is the run to your new switch. Brown black and grey (presumption). These should be marked brown. only because of the phase colour in the cable. Rule is to follow the phase colour in the cable.

You now need to place a sticker on your consumer unit, to state that your installation has 2 versions of cable colour coding as per BS7671, please take care when undertaking work.

Hope this helps.
