This is a problem that most parents would love to have compared to drugs, alcohol, truancy, video games, porn, sex, etc. Many children can't read or won't read. He's a smart kid who wants to be smarter. He is destined for a very successful career where he can use his brain. Breathe a sigh of relief -- you've got a winner. Family time, meal time, sleep time, and homework time should not compromised, but in between these times, let him read Wikipedia as much as he wants. Encouraging and guiding his social skills is what he needs from you. Perhaps finding some off-line venture that taps his brain and gives him some social interaction would be helpful. Perhaps he could tutor other students or work in a library. Maybe he could start a newsletter or newspaper and get others to contribute articles. See if you can find team-based competitions that exercise the brain such as Odyssey of the Mind, Destination Imagination, or First Lego League. If you can't find something that is already active in your area, then you two could start one. You can create your own competition from scratch or join an existing one. Avoid individualized things like spelling bees since that would only cause him to work more by himself. Good luck and tell him to look up scholarship opportunities on Wikipedia. Ivy League schools can be expensive!
