This book was special for me 'cos I'm Russian and the book describes the way people lived in Russia at that time.
I found that I understand Anna very much - her problem is what many women have now.
Then there's Levin who wanted to make life better at his place but the people he did it for were unwilling even to try to help.

If you didn't find the book moving it can mean that either you're too young for it - a teenager must find it boring, or that it's not your type of book. (My husband reads fantasy all the time and I don't find it interesting)

Anyway, there's no book that everyone likes. When I was at school my teachers tried to make us love Pushkin and gave us too much of him to read - as a result, I hated his books all my childhood (except his fairy tales). So, don't pay attention to opinions.

I like Leo Tolstoy's writing, and my favourite is Anna Karenina. It was kinda hard to read at first, but as the story goes, it got more and more interesting. Tolstoy described what life's like in Russia for women at that period. And Anna is such a tragic heroine. Quite sad ending, but still a great reading.

I never got all the way thru it. I'm not a big classics fan, but i got half way thru it. I tried to start reading it with Oprah's Club because I thought if I read along with others it would go by easier than trying to get thru it myself. Well, i was watching an episode of Will & Grace and Jennifer Lopez was on it. She gave away the ending of the book. I was so mad that I put the book down and never started reading it again!

One of the best books I've ever read.
That Karenin was a nasty piece of work.
In that medium scene, Tolstoy quite clearly establishes that the happiness experienced by people in cults isn't real happiness.
