The story goes like this: My boyfriend and I had been together only a few months when I went overseas to school for a year. He couldn't get a work visa in the country I was studying, no matter how he tried. So we deicided, as a last resort, we'd get married so we could stay together. Well, its been about a year and a half since we wed and we decided we don't want to be together anymore. We don't know how the easiest and cheapest way is for us to get divorced- or is it possible to get the marraige annulled because we didn't truely want to get married?

Please I don't need any resposes about how sacred marraige is and all that stuff.

thanks.

If you are representing yourself, there are agencies that may be able to assist you. Only if you are considering a divorce.

New York City Bar S.H.I.E.L.D. Program - (212) 626-7383
In Motion (Legal Clinic for Women) - (718) 562-8181 or
(212) 695-3800

A divorce is the legal dissolution of a marriage by a court. An annulment is a judicial declaration that a marriage is invalid. Unlike a divorce that dissolves a valid marriage, an annulment establishes that the marriage is not legally valid.

If you want more information about annulments, you should consider speaking to an attorney.

Call the New York State Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service (toll free) at 1-800-342-3661.

you would have to get annulled under the circumstances of fraud. Which one of you would have to admit you scammed the other. In fact you both got married for fraudulent reasons.
