The Babe early in his career pitched racking up 94 wins and 46 losses and also had a 2.28 era just think of the hitting stats he would have accumulated had he not pitched his first 6 seasons. Remember he also hit 714 home runs and had .690 career slugging percentage. Bonds has about 1500 more at bats, and 300 more games. Ruth's lifetime batting average was .342, Bonds is around .299. But Bonds did do something Ruth didn't he used the Juice.

Coming from a diehard Barry Bonds and SF Giants fan, I fully Believe the best player to ever professionally play the game was not Babe nor is it Barry but rather it is Willie Mays. But I would put Bonds second, then Ruth purely for hitters.
Although, the thing that frustrates me is that everyone forgets that Bonds has won 8 gold gloves; 5 from 90-94 and then 3 from 96-98, but he has still maintained a .984 fielding % going into the 07 season. Also, he is the only member of the 500 steal, 500 Home Run Club. Bonds averaged 33 steals a season through the 1999 season. I give all the 80s and 90s stats because most people stick to the belief that if bonds used roids of any form he started them in 2000.
Anyway, Babe overall isn't better as an offensive player, and you can't bring in his pitching because its been probably 30-50 years since even college pitchers hit, or you had position players expected to be pitchers at all at the pro level. So, overall to answer your question ,Bonds is better.

Babe didn't use steroids. Babe did more with less at bats. Babe out hit the rest of the league in his time. He pitched. He won world series'. He didn't wear a kevlar arm guard and stand on the plate. Babe also didn't have a reality tv series that was a pity party for himself.

Babe played during the deadball era and when pitching stipulations werent as strict when the babe played it was legal to bounce a pitch across the plate, not to mention hitting all the great pitchers newayz.now granted bonds does take steroids he doesnt just take them and thats it he works out harder than anyone in the giants organization and therefor he recieves better results.

because the Bambino became a legend on beer and hotdogs. how did barry bonds become a star? steroids. he cheated. George Herman Ruth did. not. cheat. end of story. cheaters are not worthy of the hall of fame. Barry Bonds is a disgrace to baseball and baseball's legends.

I agree with anpao.....Bonds is a total better player than Ruth was. Bonds never did steriods.....it's not proven. Even if he did, they weren't illegal in baseball when he supposedly did them, so you can't take away his records. Ruth couldn't steal bases like Bonds either.

Thank you. No need to draw up my own argument that Ruth was better. Except, Bonds had to cheat just to get his batting stats up there.
